Course Description

This webinar will allow participants to identify their personal motivation for being child advocates, explain the difference between empathy vs. compassion with discussion on how to work from a place of compassion, and explore the importance of letting go of over identification with one's role.


For those with the Guardian ad Litem Program, this 1.5 hours course does apply towards in-service hours. Please select training topic "ACES/Effects of Trauma" and specify in notes the title, "Part 3: The Discipline of Self-Awareness" when inputting into Optima.

Corinne Edwards

Corinne is a licensed therapist that has been in the counseling field for over 19 years, having graduated with a master's and specialist's degree in mental health counseling from the University of Florida in 2001. She has over 15 years experience in the trauma field, getting her start at the Child Protection Team and having worked with hundreds of children in the child dependency system. Corinne is currently in private practice, treating individuals for anxiety, depression, and trauma. She also independently contracts with the Child Advocacy Center, Inc. in Alachua County and ITM Group. Additionally, she is an EAP provider for Alachua County Fire Rescue, Alachua County Sheriff's Office, Gainesville Police Department, and Shands Hospital. She has extensive training in secondary trauma. She volunteers with the EMDR Trauma Recovery Humanitarian Assistance Program and is on the Circuit 8 Child Death Review Committee. She is passionate about the importance of providing training to trauma professionals on protecting against secondary trauma, has presented at several statewide conferences, and offers a one-day retreat on the topic.
