Delinquency 101: What every Guardian ad Litem needs to know

Free

Mandatory Staff and/or Attorney Training

Course description

This training will give you an overview of the Delinquency system and how it sometimes overlaps with the Dependency system.

In 2019, the State of Florida passed a new law that allows Guardians ad Litem and Attorneys ad Litem the opportunity to provide the Court and the Delinquency parties with important information about the youth and family that will allow the Court and all those involved to make well informed decisions about the youth. We will cover these changes and possible strategies to advocate for the youth you are appointed to represent.

Panelists:

  • Laura Klossner, Senior Best Interest Attorney
  • Deborah Lacombe, Special Counsel
  • Kristen Solomon, Regional Director – Southern Region
  • Kelly Swartz, Director of Legal Advocacy

For those with the Guardian ad Litem Program, this 1-hour course does apply towards in-service hours.

Please select training topic "Legal Issues" when inputting into Optima.

Reviews (3)

This was helpful training when dealing with a child in care and being involved with the delinquency system.

by Bobbie Brock

I thought this review was a great resource of what to expect and how you can help as a GAL if your child is going through the court process and is the deliquent.

by Julianne Beck

I thought this is helpful if you already are the GAL and the child then commits a crime as then you will know the procedure and help inform the child about the likely outcomes, etc.
