CAM ECHO Training - March 2021
Building Relationships With A Teen
The purpose in creating the Teen Team series was to share the strategies and insights our 13th Circuit Teen Team have learned over the past 3 years of focusing on high risk teens. One of our fundamental realizations has been the teens today are the parents of children for whom we will be advocating tomorrow, so we have to set them up to have successful adult lives by meeting their needs as teenagers. Our end goal is to try to break the cycle of abuse by giving the teens what they need to have a different outcome, so their kids don’t become part of the system. We discuss the importance of the teen advocate’s active participation in various courts and services. We will also talk about the importance of supporting a teen emotionally, physically, and mentally by meeting them where they are. We also offer tips and tools for communicating effectively with teens and building strong relationships through effective advocacy, wraparound services active participation, and support.
