Training:  "Educational Surrogate Parents and The Importance of Utilizing This Legal Status for Dependency Children"

A surrogate parent refers to an individual appointed to act in the place of a parent in the educational decision making and in safeguarding a child's rights under the Individuals with Disabilities Act. This presentation covers children having or suspected of having a disability (Chapter 39.0016(3)), who can be an educational surrogate, who appoints an educational surrogate and how long that appointment lasts, the responsibilities of the surrogate parent, and the difference between an educational surrogate and a Guardian ad Litem.
