In this course I learned what the definitions of child abuse and neglect are, and what actions would be considered abuse and/or neglect. This information is very important for me to know as a GAL volunteer, and the course taught me what I needed to know for any of my future visits with the child I will be placed with. I also found the slides on the two different lenses - the deficit lens and the resource lens. Now I understand just how important it is to use a balance of the two lenses, and to not favor one over the other.

Good Overview of Abuse

Very important review, the steps help me understand the abuse and neglect in a different view. The interest of the child psychological state is vital for a functioning environment as well as the care givers to have a producted relationship

knowing the four different kinds of abuse are is key. Knowing how many different ways it can take place helps to identify it. Understanding each situation helps to allow Guardian to testify in court about it.

Easy to understand, to the point and well articulated with great examples.

Information was presented in an easy to understand format. Having the printed text along side the verbal presentation was very helpful. Once you listen to the speaker it's easy to review the information by reading what was said. This is very helpful for learners to utilize the method that works best for them. Some learners grasp ideas much easier by listening, others by reading, and then others who like to utilize both as a reinforcement of the information presented.
