Dynamics of Child Abuse: Physical Abuse

Dr. Cameron Rosenthal, medical director at UF's Child Protection Team, presented part two of her training series on physical abuse, covering various types of abusive injuries, risk factors, and red flags. She discussed how to distinguish accidental from abusive injuries, reviewed specific patterns of abuse such as bruising, burns, and fractures, and explained the challenges in diagnosing abuse. The presentation included case examples and videos of abusive injuries, emphasizing the importance of thorough assessments and proper documentation. She concluded by discussing the long-lasting impacts of complex trauma on children and the role of communities in promoting positive childhood experiences.
