Course description

Understanding issues related to diversity and culturally competent child advocacy is critical to anyone serving as a Volunteer Child Advocate.

It can enhance your ability to see things from new and different perspectives while working with families and children. This understanding will lead you to respond in a sensitive manner to each child’s unique needs.

Developing cultural competence is a lifelong process. What you learn in this course is just a “starting point” in this process and we encourage you to continue to explore this important topic.

You are not expected to complete the course in one sitting.  It is recommend you complete one chapter at a time, allowing at least 30 minutes per chapter.

NOTE:  For GAL Staff and Volunteers, the Optima training topic for this 1.5 hour course is "Cultural Diversity".

This material has been exclusively designed for I am for the child Academy.
