About the instructor

"REPRESENTING TRANSGENDER YOUTH: CULTURAL COMPETENCY AND ADVOCACY TIPS"

Speaker:  Simone Chriss

This workshop will include a transgender cultural competency training, which will educate participants on the unique needs of the trans youth we serve, and will equip them with practical advocacy tips and tools that can be used to zealously advocate on behalf of trans youth in educational proceedings. The special education laws can be utilized to protect the rights of trans students due to the anxiety, depression, and psychological distress many face as a result of not having their identities affirmed at school. Schools should not be traumatizing and stigmatizing places for our trans youth.

For those with the Guardian ad Litem Program, this 1.5 hour training does apply towards in-service hours.
